Simple Stovetop Popcorn: Easy Healthy Snack
In the chaos of motherhood, finding quick, healthy snacks is essential for both you and your little ones. Stovetop popcorn is a perfect solution- it's easy to make and wholesome. Plus, it's budget-friendly and great for on-the-go snacking!
Equipment
- Large pot
Ingredients
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 cup Trader Joe's organic popcorn kernals
- sea salt (to taste)
Instructions
- Pour the oil into the pot and place it on the stove over medium heat. To test if the oil is hot enough, add a few kernels. When they pop, the oil is ready.
- Once the test kernels pop, remove them and add the remaining popcorn kernels to the pot. Spread them in an even layer.
- Place the lid on the pot, leaving it slightly ajar to allow steam to escape. This helps keep the popcorn crispy.
- Shake the pot gently back and forth over the heat. This helps to distribute the heat evenly and prevents burning. You’ll hear the kernels start to pop.
- Once the popping slows down to about 2 seconds between pops, remove the pot from the heat.
- Carefully remove the lid (watch out for steam).
- Add salt to taste.
- You're ready to spoon the popcorn into a bowl and enjoy!
Notes
If you don’t finish the entire batch of popcorn- don’t let it go to waste! After it cools, bag it into a Ziploc bag and it will stay fresh in your pantry for up to 7 days.
After trying a few different brands of popcorn kernels we found the Trader Joe’s popcorn kernels yield the best results (mostly all of the popcorn kernels popped, leaving minimal waste) and have the best flavor!
