1. Letter Tracing In Sugar

This activity is a super simple way to practice letter tracing without doing it the traditional method of pencil on paper. You can have your kiddo use an unsharpened pencil, their finger, or another stick object. I chose to go with an unsharpened pencil to practice pencil gripping.

You can use salt or sugar for the tray (you can also do this on a plate). We added a colored piece of construction paper under the sugar to better visualize our traced letter! Then, for a little flair- we added tiny silver stars we had on hand.

I also printed out this tracing guide for him to refer to and reiterate the proper steps to wiring a letter.

The flashcards were there to keep track of all the letters and ensuring we completed the entire alphabet. I tend to have him complete the letters out of order and hide the flashcards so he has to think about what the letter looks like without just seeing it and copying it.

2. Muffin Tin CVC Magnetic Words

This is a really fun way to switch things up when it comes to learning CVC words! I printed these CVC card with pictures for free, here. And you can order these magnetic letters here! They include upper and lower case letter, 20 numbers and math symbols. So, they’re great to have on hand for a variety of activities.

3. Coin Counting Muffin Tin Activity

This is one of my favorite activities to do with my son! I love the idea of having the muffin cups to serve as each individual problem, rather than it being something on a worksheet. I try my best to create activities to learn concepts by doing, rather than learning them from pencil and paper. It has always clicked for him easier that way! This is a super simple activity and I like that you draw in the amounts for each muffin liner so you can make it more/less complex as the child progresses.

4. Dot Sticker + White Board Activities

There are ENDLESS ways to utilize a white board and dot stickers when it comes to learning. These activities take little time to prepare and very little materials are needed. Just a pen, paper and dot stickers. Along with a white board and dry erase markers. For math this day I decided to use white boards to make it easy and quick to clear up any mistakes made. AND writing on a white board is just more FUN!

With the dot stickers, I utilized them to practice CVC words, sight words and counting by 2’s, 5’s and 10’s.
